)rder #4 - Baldy Locs
Music is expressive at root and opens an infinite realm of emotion the listeners can experience. There are few moments in music when an artist can just give you their all through their song. After a prolific run of dropping singles in 2022 [go check out “Penny”], the debut project from Baldy Locs is finally here and it’s equipped with energetic alternative rager vibes. Baldy really shines as the project progresses; Order # 4 is the perfect name for this project being that it’s a concise four-song ep. Appreciate the artwork as you start the project as well.
Baldy comes out hard with a wavy flow and stresses in the intro “It’s a damn shame baby don’t know my damn name but want to give me every damn thang”. I found myself bobbing my head as the beat progressively slows and picks back up. Baldy keeps pace, switching flows and overall grasping listeners attention with her rowdy boisterous lyrics. Moreover, introducing the concept of the project that the world will know her name and men will do whatever for a glimpse of her love. The project overall is something you can play all summer with your friends in your car all summer.
With no features on this project, Baldy organically gives you a refreshing new sound. Ultimately separating herself from other artists at points, wearing her heart on her sleeve. Order # 4 peaks on tracks like Munchies, letting you know she is everything you need in lyrics like “He don’t want to lose me to the night life He just falling too deep in love”. Along with sound engineering from Rolling Woods Media’s own DopeDope, the project offers an energetic feel for the listener to appreciate or something to guide you on the journey with your favorite freaky, toxic ex.
The outro, Rolling Stone (Part 2), is perfectly placed in this project. Singing lyrics like “You stay on my heart like a tattoo” Baldy shows her vulnerable side. Which doesn’t take away from the energy of the project. It honestly added a feel that left me wanting to hear more from Baldy. This track has an infectious chorus, you will be singing along before the end.
Coming out of the Chicago scene, there are many advantages like resources in certain parts of the city if you can find them, the rich diversity, and all the customs that come with different cultures. There are just as many disadvantages like being placed in boxes as a certain type of artist. With this strong project, Baldy is establishing her own lane. Stream Order #4 on streaming services.
