How You Moving - Shot by EJL Visuals

Gee Ballard

LB Papa opens the video and song speaking to Glock about his stress. Telling him how it’s other shit to worry about. We can all feel that way when talking to our friends about our problems as they stress to us it’s too many good things to be sad about, however that doesn’t stop those feelings. How You Moving is a track that depicts the uncertainty around Austin and how he feels uneasy when trying to maneuver through life. So while he hears what LB is saying it also seems to fall on deaf ears.

Time after time, Cyndi Lauper got up in confusion/ I can’t lie why everybody lie to me? They must think I’m stupid.

The track opens referencing a classic 80s Pop song by Cyndi Lauper which is a great contrast and deep cut reference to how he’s feeling in the moment. Cyndi seems optimistic to keep trying for her loved ones. While Austin is displaying emotions of defeat.

Tried to reach for air but niggas stuck and couldn’t move my arms

Anxiety like “why I’m not hurt from running through these walls?”

EJL Visuals displays these feelings of confusion and discomfort with the POV approach in one scene to give a more direct approach of Austin discussing how he feels, then cutting to colorful and layered footage of himself and outlines to display the out of body experience the music portrays.

I also really enjoyed the way we get to see multiple versions of Austin at once as if to allude to the feeling of talking to one’s self or having an out of body experience with our conscience.

The second part of the song is possibly my favorite as it gives us a chance to hear from LB again as he continues to tell Austin that the things he’s stressing, but Austin still feels these same feelings of loneliness and depression.

Four walls in a dark room I don’t relapsed, nobody checking on me

Seen it all in this game of life, got the main role and can’t pause the movie”

This bar hits hard because it’s the times when we think our friends are okay are often when people are the most vulnerable and no matter what may be said to us, it may not change how we feel. The track is such a cool context because it gives you such a rapid and steady flow of gems to live by and quote but also explaining how he doesn’t feel any change in his situation. I had a chance to speak to Austin more about this track and he expressed how it was about a lot of things he was feeling as well as a sort of case study of dimensia and how one deals with it, as he has seen firsthand how those things have affected his grandmother. It makes her cameo in the early portion of the video all the more beautiful as he attempts to find similarities in his emotions with his loved ones and what she encounters daily.

The reference to time and feeling like things are repeating themselves is a great metaphor all it’s own.

“Disturbia when I cross that line I know what’s coming with me/ Having flashbacks, shit get kinda blurry like it’s a distant memory.”

A great visual and song overall this single was a great way to hype up the release of his upcoming project Planet 2. Be sure to go check out Austin’s newest release, FREE PIERRE 2, as it is out now on all streaming platforms as well as dive back into the older part of the catalogue and check out ‘Boy Meets World’ produced by Rolling Woods Media’s own, BubbyBeats. Things are looking very bright for Austin in the hip hop game as he continues to create his own flow and tell his story in such a way that it requires a deep dive into nearly every verse to truly see “How You Moving.”
